Ok, so to lighten the mood after our last instalment of, weekend watch, we decided to jazz things up a bit! Keeping with butt-kicking action theme, we turn to the ultimate female slayer in the game. Way before Michelle Gellar staked her claim (intentional pun), Kristy SwansonKristy Swanson was the OG, Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

“Pert. Wholesome. Way Lethal.” 20th Century Fox

Made in 1992, this super fun horror comedy begins like a Clueless parallel. Buffy has it all - looks, money, and a bevy of beautiful friends. Her main concerns are boys, fashion and boys. All this turns upside down when she meets, creepily we might add, Merrick (Donald Sutherland), in a shopping mall who says she is destined to be a vampire slayer. Yah, right. What follows is a brilliant tale of true self-discovery, real friendships and major slaying. Plus, what’s a ‘90s movie without heartthrob, Luke Perry? You think Buffy’s transformation is a good one, well Pike’s (Luke’s character name) is just as good. Comedy is also nicely supplied via Hilary Swank (this was her debut movie by the by) and David Arquette. And last but not least, a killer (so many puns) soundtrack that includes the Divinyls smash hit, I Ain’t Gonna Eat Out My Heart Anymore. Enjoy!

Buffy The Vampire Slayer can be rented from Amazon Prime Video and iTunes (£3.49) (**prices true at time of blog post**)
